Note: On 30 Jan 2006 my brother, Ollie Hemmann, received a phone call from Jim Sterup of Salem, Oregon. He has an insurance brokerage in Salem. His birth mother was Gladys Kruse from Hannibal, MO. He was born out-of-wedlock to Gladys after her parents had sent her to her sister who lived in Salem, Oregon. His birthmother and lived with the Sterup family who later adopted and raised him. His birth mother later married a Hemmann and lived in Park Forest, Illinois.
Jim Sterup is Episcopal. He has been married 15 years. They have no children. His wife works for an Oregon State legislater.
Note: West Ely is just a few miles west of Hannibal, MO.
Gladys 'Ann' Kruse Hemmann, age 79, of 604 Woodbridge, Quincy, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 1:10 pm in Blessing Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born January 12, 1924 in West Ely, MO, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Smith Kruse. On May 1, 1948, she married Clifford Hemmann in West Ely, Mo. He survives. She was a graduate of Immanuel Grade School in West Ely and Palmyra High School. She was a receptionist and secretary at Rich South High School in Richton Park, IL. She and her husband moved to Quincy in 1997 She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and she had been a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church in Park Forest, IL. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors in addition to her husband are 2 children, Skip Hemmann and his wife Sharon of Park Forest, IL; Barbara Vahle and her husband Chet of Quincy; 6 grandchildren, Stacey Hemmann of Chicago, Il; Blake Hemmann, US Air Force, and Jamie, and their son, Gage of Dayton, Ohio, Lt. Michael Vahle with the US Army stationed in Baghdad, Iraq; Kristen Vahle of West Point, NY; Mark and Kari Vahle of Quincy; and 2 sisters, Frances Kruse Kent and her husband Tom of Ocean Park, Wash; andEvelyn Kruse Hughes and her husband Al, Los Alamos, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Harold Kruse. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rev. Larry Troxel officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Burial Park, Hannibal, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 pm Saturday at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or theCamp Callahan. Hansen-Spear Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
