Source: 9/04/2001 e-mail from Delores Darnstaedt referring to her conversation with Bill and Miriam Bock at the Darnstaedt Reunion at Altenburg on Sunday, 2 Sep 2001: Bill Bock said that there is no relation between the Bocks and the Schnabels."Helmut Schnabel was always curious about the name on their family barn and set about to find out what happened to the Michael Bock that immigrated to America. He made a contact with the Bocks in Perry County in the 1980's and began a correspondence, finally culminating in 2 trips to America by him so far. His history of the Bock farm: Michael Bock sold the farm when he emmigrated - to a ZCHIEGNER who owned it until the 1840's or 1850's when they, too, emmigrated. This ZCHIEGNER soldit to the Schnabels who have owned it ever since. So it was Helmut Schnabel who contacted the Bocks, and, by the way, searched out the family information for the Bock family. He is very interested in history." Billy Bock has visited the Schnabel farm in Germany on at least two occasions. Note: The 1850 U.S. Census for Perry County, Missouri (pg. 53) shows Michael Bock Sr. (age 60) as part of the household of Michael Bock Jr. (age 30) and Christina Bock (age 28). The children listed are: Mary Ann (8), Joseph (6), Minna (4), Magdaline (1). The 1860 U.S. Census for Perry County, Missouri (pg. 40) does not show a Michael Bock Sr. to be part of the household of Michael and Christine Bock, nor, for that matter,as part of the household of John G. and Justina Fiehler. (Justina Fiehler nee Bock was Michael Bock Sr. 's daughter.) I have yet to find a record of Michael Bock Sr. 's death and burial in Perry County. Note: I saw this roadsign as I entered Jonaswalde - Altenberger Land. |
