Shared note

Philipp Baum's death record at St Pauls UCoC indicates he was born in Grosz Kallenbach, Rhinpfalz, Baiern. At the time of immigration, the present day German state of Rheinland Palatinate (Pfalz in German) was a district of the Kingdom ofBavaria (Bayern in German). The only village on an 1880 map of the Pfalz with a similar name is Kaltenbach located northeast of Pirmasens. Place name index of St Paul UCoC, Belleville defines current village name as Grosskarlbach (67229)

Public Domain Sales Records for Monroe County indicate that Phillip Baum purchased Public Land on 8Apr1839 and 16Aug1839.

According to 1840 Census of St. Clair County, IL, Page 247, Philipp Baum household consisted of M aged 30-40, F aged 20-30, two M aged under 5 and one F aged under 5.

According to a plaque on the Salem-Baum Evangelical Church building ruins on Old Baum Church Road near Waterloo, IL, "On May 11, 1845, a German speaking Protestant congregation was organized at the Philip Baum residence near here. ...". The book, "Arrowheads to Areojets" indicates that prior to organization, "the Reverend Ries, came to the Baum residence and the people assembled there to hear him preach." The congregation was disbanded in 1939.

Last name was spelled Braun, in 1860 Monroe County Census Index, Page 452, House # 1817. Names, ages and birthplaces are however consistent with known facts concerning the Phillip Baum family.
