According to LaVerne Telle Boehmke (MRIN 172), Marie Bachmann died October 28, 1838 of Nervenfieber (Typhus) as had her daughter Justine, on October 3, 1838. She was survived by children Wilhelm, 20 years, Christine, 17 years, Johann, 12 years, Marie, 10 years, Gottfried, 8 years, and Eva, 5 years.

Johann Gottfried Hemmann and 6 children emigrated with the Gruber Group in 1839.

!MARRIAGE: Evangelisch-lutherisch Kirche, Rueckersdorf, Traubuch 1819, page 24 #5, Johann Gottfried Hemmann, Farmer and keeper of draught animals in Paitzdorf, unmarried, 6 child, 2nd son, of first marriage of farmer and anspanner Johann Hemmannof that place, and Miss Maria Bachmann, 6th child, 3rd daughter of first marriage, of farmer and citizen Johann Bachmann in Ruechersdorf. Proclaimed in Paitsdorf and Ruechersdorf on Rogate Sunday, 3 June 1819.

#2 Evangelisch-lutherisch Kirche Thuringen in Paitzdorf, Traubuch 1819, Seite 19, Paitzdorf, Saxe-Altenburg; 3rd daughter, 1st wife of Johann Bachmann, farmer and resident of Rueckersdorf. It says they were married in the church in Rueckersdorf.
When we visited with Saskia Sonntag in Rückersdorf in 1983 the church was falling down. It is very close to other small towns. It is no longer used as a church. It now belongs to the parish Nischwitz.

!DEATH/BURIAL: Evangelische-lutherische Kirche Thuringen in Paitzdorf, Death Register, Year 1838, #11. Maria, eine geborene Bachmann aus Rückersdorf, des Bauers u. Anspanners Johann Gottfried Hemmanns hier erste Ehefrau. Todestag: den 28 Oktoberfrüh 1 Uhr. Begräbnis: d. 31 Oktober auf heisigem Gottesacker in der Stille. Am 1. November erhielt sie die Predigt. Alter: 39 Jahre, 7 Monate, 2 Wochen u. 5 Tage.
Todesursache: Nervenfieber.

On 28 October 1838, before the 1st hour, she died of Typhus (Nervenfieber) as had her daughter Justine, on 3 October 1838. Maria was buried at night (in der Stille = quietly without the ringing of bells) on 31 Oct, and a Sermon was preached on lNovember. Age: 39 years 7 months 2 weeks 5 days.

!REMARKS: Ernst Braeunlich, Dorfstrasse 27, D-07580 Paitzdorf, found the following information in the Paitzdorf Mortgage Record 1839-1852, and sent it to me 25 June 1983: "In 1839 Farmer and Teamster Johann Gottfried Hemmann declares that his wife Marie, born Bachmann, died and left the following children: Wilhelm, 20 years, Christine, 17 years, Johann, 12 years, Marie, 10 years, Gottfried, 8 years, Eva, 5 years. He declares that in a bill of sale of his deceased parents-in-law Bachmannin Rückersdorf 165 Gulden due his deceased wife remain unpaid and that he is leaving this sum to his children.
In the material Ernst Braeunlich sent me from the Documents of the Superintendencies Altenburg and Ronneburg, the First Division of the Archives of the Duchy of Saxe Altenburg, page 3 describes the Emmigration due to religious unrest in 1839. OfJohann Gottfried Hemmann it says, "This man, shortly before his departure, established a memorial in honor of his wife, Maria, born Bachmann, in Rückersdorf, who had died of typhoid fever on 3 October 1838, and also in honor of his daughter, Justina. The memorial was a beautiful glass door which was installed behind the wooden door at the church entrance, so that when the door had to be closed because of wind or bad weather, people sitting near the door didn't have to contend with poorlighting."
A Frau Maria Bachmann, wife of farmer and anspanner Johann Bachmann of Rueckersdorf was one of the baptismal sponsors for Christine Hemmann.
